Expect broad, practical knowledge: beer service, freshness, glassware, core beer flavor vocabulary, ingredients, brewing basics, pairing fundamentals, and recognition of major style families.
Style study is recognition-level. Know common families, everyday examples, and the difference between broad groups rather than memorizing every BJCP statistic.
Some required style knowledge is outside BJCP detail, including non-alcoholic and alcohol-free beer, gluten-free and gluten-reduced language, and current emerging styles such as pastry stout or fruited sour.
Service questions matter heavily: freshness, draft hygiene, glass cleanliness, serving temperature, and responsible handling show up throughout Certified Beer Server study.
